Description

A senior specialist role to apply advanced analytical, modelling, and technical expertise to analyse complex datasets, transforming data into meaningful insights that inform decision-making within the Finance Programme Management Office (FPMO). The Data Scientist will lead the development of the Finance Business Unit's data strategy, drive end-to-end data science projects, and ensure they are delivered within scope, on time, and on budget to optimise performance and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the Finance Business Unit’s data strategy
  • Drive end-to-end data science initiatives, from problem definition to value delivery
  • Design, develop, and deploy advanced analytical and machine learning models
  • Analyse complex datasets to generate actionable insights for decision-making
  • Apply deep knowledge of financial systems (SAP, Oracle) and support system integrations
  • Communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Mentor junior data scientists and analysts
  • Plan, monitor, and manage data science projects (scope, timelines, risks, budget)

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • BCom Degree or equivalent, PM Diploma in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science
  • PEMBOK/PRINCE 2/ Waterfall/ Agile PM qualification
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in data science, with proficiency in core skills and experience leading small to medium projects; A strong project portfolio and relevant certifications can offset experience
  • Technical Knowledge & Skills:
  • Mathematics & Statistics, Programming (Python, SQL), Machine Learning, Data Wrangling, and Data Visualisation (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Financial Systems: Strong knowledge of core financial systems like SAP and Oracle, including their data structures and workflows
  • Systems Integration: Knowledge of integrating financial systems with other platforms (CRM, CaseWare, SAP BPC)
  • Attitude & Competencies: Results-oriented, strong stakeholder engagement, excellent communication and data storytelling, collaborative, adaptable, and innovative
