During the Orientation year, Hospitality Management Trainees and Professional Cookery Trainees work in various hotel departments to gain practical insights into hotel operations and apply for the 3-year program. Orientation Trainees must follow company policies, maintain confidentiality, and protect company assets. They must welcome guests, anticipate their needs, and thank them with genuine appreciation. They must speak professionally, answer phones appropriately, and maintain positive working relationships. They must also comply with quality assurance expectations and standards. They must read and visually verify information, move objects weighing less than or equal to 5kg without assistance, and perform other reasonable job duties as requested.

Responsibilities

• Trainees are placed in a Marriott hotel in South Africa each year, gaining experience in various types of hotels and learning different management styles
• The program managers decide the placement location, considering the trainee's personal circumstances
• Trainees spend a minimum of one year with a hotel before being transferred, with transfers occurring in January each year
• They are informed by the end of November about their new hotel placement for the following year

Qualifications

• Must be a South African citizen by birth
• • Must be between 18-22 years old
• • Must have a Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent accredited NQF or NCV Level 4 qualification
• • Must pass all 7 Matric subjects, preferably at 50% or higher
• • Non-compliant candidates will be reviewed
• • Only applicants without post Matric/NQF 4/NCV 4 qualifications will be considered
