Description

The Finance Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data integration and transformation pipelines within Old Mutual’s actuarial data ecosystem (including Delta Bricks, the Data Lake, and Bronze/Silver/Gold data layers). The role involves implementing Python-based ETL/ELT solutions, ensuring high-quality data delivery for actuarial, pricing, financial reporting, and risk management use cases. The engineer collaborates with actuarial and data science teams to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely data.

Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Development & Maintenance Design and implement ETL/ELT data pipelines to ingest and transform data from source systems to Delta Bricks and the Data Lake
  • Curate and manage data through Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers ensuring consistency and quality
  • ???? Data Quality & Governance Apply validation, cleansing, and reconciliation checks to ensure data accuracy
  • Work with actuarial teams to define and enforce data quality and governance standards
  • ???? Code & Script Management Develop and maintain Python scripts for data extraction and transformation tasks
  • Use version control and CI/CD pipelines for code management and deployment
  • ???? Performance Monitoring & Optimization Monitor and optimize pipeline performance for scalability, efficiency, and reliability
  • Conduct capacity planning and implement performance tuning strategies
  • ???? Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work with Actuarial Analysts, Data Scientists, and platform teams to align data solutions with business needs
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise data architecture, security, and regulatory standards
  • ???? Documentation & Knowledge Sharing Document data flows, processes, models, and configurations
  • Share knowledge and provide technical training and best practices to peers and stakeholders
  • ???? Incident Management & Continuous Improvement Troubleshoot and resolve data issues and anomalies promptly
  • Continuously improve systems to ensure high data quality and performance

Qualifications

  • Required Degrees: Bachelor of Computer Science (BCoSc)
  • Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)
  • Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science (BSc)
