Sanlam Group is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join its Tech & Software Centre of Excellence in Bellville, Western Cape. This role sits within the Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) division, which supports retail and corporate clients across South Africa. The Junior Data Engineer will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of data pipelines, data vaults, and business intelligence solutions. The position involves working with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality data delivery and governance across various database stacks. Responsibilities

• Define a structured approach to problem solving and delivery against it
• Load large, complex data sets and make data available for other data engineers
• Design, implement and manage data vaults and data transformations and the data pipeline in collaboration with data engineers and data modelers
• Monitor and fine-tune data vaults and data transformations on various database stacks
• Implement BI and data management solutions using modern development and modelling techniques and tools
• Engage with technical stakeholders including data scientists, data analysts, business analysts, other data engineers and solutions architects

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Engineering or another quantitative field or National Diploma in an Information Technology related discipline preferred
• Work Experience The Junior Data Engineer must have less than or equal to 2 years relevant experience in a similar environment
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of data structures and relational databases
• Experience with structured data including entities, hierarchies, relationships and metadata
• Experience with ETL or ELT tools such as SSIS, WhereScape or DBT
• Exposure to data warehousing principles including Kimball or Data Vault
• Familiarity with agile development practices
