Description

An IT Technician at Curro Helderwyk will play a critical role in supporting the school’s digital infrastructure, ensuring that computer systems, networks, and IT services operate efficiently to enable quality education. Working behind the scenes, the technician will install, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware and software, train users, and uphold security standards. This position demands both technical expertise and a commitment to the values and ethos of the school, contributing to a positive learning environment through reliable IT support.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality
  • Train users of the systems to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure
  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices such as routers and printers
  • Check computer hardware including HDDs, mouses, and keyboards to ensure functionality
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimise performance
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
  • Organise and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems including repair or replacement of parts and debugging
  • Maintain records and logs of repairs, fixes, and maintenance schedules
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to education and a willingness to contribute to the values and ethos of the school

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as IT technician or relevant position
  • Qualification in computer science, engineering or relevant field
  • Certification as IT technician will be an advantage such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified IT Professional
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication ability
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management skills
  • In-depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Great troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail
  • An energetic and positive approach to their work
  • A clear criminal record
