Description

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), South Africa’s national financial intelligence unit, plays a critical role in combating financial crime, money laundering, terrorism financing and related illicit economic activities. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Technologist to support our forensic, intelligence, and operational teams by sourcing, integrating, analysing, and visualising data that enables effective decision-making and strengthens support to law enforcement agencies. You will work with large, complex datasets, develop analytical models, build data pipelines, and enhance the Centre’s ability to detect suspicious financial patterns and illicit financial flows.

Responsibilities

• Engage with internal business units to understand project requirements and align data needs with forensic investigation goals
• Identify and onboard new data sources by forming relationships with external data providers to enhance data availability
• Develop and optimise database scripts, functions, stored procedures, and data pipelines to support complex financial crime analysis
• Support data integration, ETL processes and migration activities to ensure secure, seamless and timely movement of data
• Conduct data integrity checks and quality assurance testing to maintain the reliability of forensic evidence
• Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, queries and data-related issues
• Design analytical models to detect trends, anomalies and suspicious financial activities
• Use diagnostic and statistical techniques to identify relationships and causal links in datasets
• Prepare detailed analytical reports and intelligence briefs to support law enforcement investigations and strategic planning
