Description

Bursary opportunity for students residing in Cape Town, Western Cape. The bursary is available for full-time studies in various scarce skills fields, including Accounting, Engineering, Data Science, Medicine, Graphic Design, and more, at undergraduate to doctorate levels. To qualify, applicants must be South African citizens, currently in or have completed Matric with at least 65%, and must not be receiving other financial aid (including NSFAS). Recipients are required to commit to a year-for-a-year service contract with the City after graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue full-time studies in a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or TVET College)
  • Study in one of the listed scarce skills fields such as Engineering, Medicine, Data Science, Environmental Health, etc
  • Maintain academic performance, especially achieving and sustaining a minimum average of 65% in Matric and throughout your studies
  • Provide proof of registration and academic progress to the bursary provider when required
  • Do not receive other bursary funding or financial assistance (including NSFAS) during the bursary period
  • Complete a year-for-a-year work-back contract with the City of Cape Town upon graduation, gaining hands-on work experience
  • Commit to the terms and conditions of the bursary agreement, including ethical academic conduct and meeting deadlines

  • Engineering (various fields, including but not limited to Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering)
  • Environmental Management and Health (Specialists, including Air Pollution and Water Quality)

  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

  • Proof of registration or provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution, if not studying yet (on institutions letterhead)
  • Full academic record/ transcripts, if currently studying (on institutions letterhead)
  • Statement of account from tertiary institution, if registered and studying Awards or certificates won, if applicable
  • Recommendation letter from a teacher/ mentor/ peer, if applicable 2 contactable references (with their contact details)
  • Proof of residence
